Virgo Fidelis Convent Senior School for Girls is a single sex, Roman Catholic secondary school, serving pupils from the age of 11-18. The secondary school, situated in Upper Norwood has approximately 675 pupils on record.

At Virgo Fidelis we seek to enable everyone to develop their potential and a love for learning within a caring, challenging Christian environment. We aspire to be a centre of excellence, working together to develop each member’s full potential. Virgo Fidelis expects the whole school community to work hard and care for others. Fidelis educators aim to encourage each student, by praising what is well done, and to offer a caring environment which promotes achievement, personal and academic, fulfilment, self-esteem and a sense of personal responsibility.

Following the retirement of the previous Headteacher, we are seeking a Headteacher who:

  • has a strong Catholic faith who will uphold and sustain the spiritual and caring ethos of our school according to the educational spirit of the Congregation Our Lady of Fidelity.
  • will use their leadership skills creatively, and with passion and dedication, in cooperation with the SLT, to ensure the continued growth and development of pupils, parents and staff within our school community;
  • has the enthusiasm, drive, ability and resilience to continue the work to raise aspirations, standards and achievements for all the students;
  • can take the school OFSTED rating forward from ‘good’ to ‘outstanding’;
  • will communicate effectively with parents, Governors, the Diocese, the Congregation and the wider local community;

We offer:

  • An established and caring school, welcoming students of all faiths, abilities and varied needs
  • A school with a long and rich history belonging to an international group of schools
  • An educational and pastoral environment to develop the pupils’ abilities and to maximise their potential
  • Enthusiastic, smart and motivated students
  • Dedicated, caring and supportive staff, seeking “to give them the desire to do well” (Mother Foundress)

We very much look forward to welcoming you.

"We came across Emmaus by accident after our own attempts to recruit a Headteacher failed. We would not hesitate to engage them again to find a suitable candidate for a leadership position."

Michael Tennant - Chairman of the Board, St Edward's School

"Emmaus brings a level of professionalism, seen in other industry sectors, to church schools’ recruitment."

The Rt Rev Nick Baines - Anglican Bishop of Leeds

"We are delighted with the appointment we made and I have reported to the whole community that we could not have been more thorough in the search or more rigorous in the selection process. Thank you Emmaus Leadership."

Jacqui Feely, Chair at All Hallows Catholic College, Macclesfield

"I approached Emmaus following our unsuccessful attempts to recruit Deputy DDEs for both Dioceses. They went on to source a far greater number of candidates of high calibre. I highly recommend Emmaus!"

Canon Carolyn Lewis, Director of Education - Diocese of Leicester and Diocese of Derby

"Emmaus were instrumental in persuading me to apply for the post of Headteacher. I had seen the school advertising in the past but nothing inspired me to get in touch. Once Emmaus advertised I felt intrigued and keen to learn more about the school. I was supported throughout the whole process, which was a very personal and positive experience. I would highly recommend Emmaus to any school thinking of recruiting, and candidates considering registering. If my new school had not used Emmaus I probably wouldn’t have applied."

Hannah Walters, Headteacher, Platt CE Primary School - Kent

"I have personal experience of the quality of service Emmaus provides, when I successfully applied for a Headship position through them. I always felt I could call up, get the ‘inside take’ on the school and ask any questions in complete confidence. The support and expert advice I received made the application process far less daunting and I would thoroughly recommend Emmaus to any Church School looking to appoint a key Leadership position."

Dan Pickard, Headteacher, The Bishop’s CE Primary School - Thetford

"I have no hesitation in commending Emmaus to any school that is seeking to appoint a Christian Headteacher. In particular, Emmaus’ ability to promote the school, assess the ethos of the school and communicate this within the networks of those who might be considered as possible candidates was invaluable."

Clive Purser, Chair of Governors, St Andrew's CE High School for Boys, Worthing

"Could we afford it? My belief, as Chair was that we couldn’t afford not to. We needed strong school leaders to be drawn to apply. Our success was down to using Emmaus and definitely money well spent."

Carry Lynott - Chair of Governors, Our Lady and St Brendan's Catholic Primary School, Bradford

"We tried going it alone to find a CEO for our MAT but had only 2 applicants who didn't meet our requirements. We approached Emmaus and from the start their professionalism was reassuring."

Barry Leyland, Chair - Blessed Edward Bamber Catholic Multi Academy Trust

"We had been cold called by a few other companies but chose Emmaus as it specialised in Church schools. We were impressed by Liam and his team coming to the school and burrowing in to what the school wanted and needed. He asked searching questions and we were satisfied this was the way forward. I had not been a fan of head hunters before, but I have to say this process and its result was a hugely better experience than going out on our own and was totally professional throughout."

Bridget Prentice, Chair of Governors - Trinity School, Lewisham
