Emmaus Leadership have been retained by the Archdiocese of Liverpool to manage the key appointment of a Deputy Director of Education within the archdiocese.
This is an exciting time to be joining the recently reformed Education team. Led by Joan McCarthy, appointed 2 years ago as the Diocesan Director of Education, the department has brought the 230 schools and colleges, as well as the Christian Education and school improvement areas together to form a single, well-resourced and highly capable education team. Alongside the impending roll out of the diocesan academy programme, introduction of the new Catholic School Inspection framework and the Religious Education Curriculum Directory, the department is also looking to expand its work in providing greater support for Catholic governance and school chaplaincy.
As Deputy Director you will support the DDE in offering strategic leadership and management of the Education department. Most importantly, you will take the primary strategic lead in a core element of the Church’s mission and ministry; namely oversight of the highest quality provision in the areas of Catholic Life, Religious Education and Collective Worship in our Academy Trusts, Schools, and Colleges.
You will currently be an SLT Leader/Head of Department with whole school responsibility experience or perhaps currently serving in Ministry with a successful school leadership background.
Given the postholder’s responsibility for protecting and developing the Catholic life of diocesan schools and colleges, it is vital that you be a practising Catholic with a living, vibrant faith.
Now is a moment of real opportunity within the educational and catholic life of the Archdiocese, which makes this post an extremely attractive and rewarding career opportunity.

"Could we afford it? My belief, as Chair was that we couldn’t afford not to. We needed strong school leaders to be drawn to apply. Our success was down to using Emmaus and definitely money well spent."
Carry Lynott - Chair of Governors, Our Lady and St Brendan's Catholic Primary School, Bradford
"I would thoroughly recommend Emmaus for any diocese or MAT seeking to appoint at a senior level in Catholic Education. Should we need help in the future...I would be confident in using Emmaus again."
Bishop Alan Williams sm - Diocese of Brentwood
"This is the second time our Governing Board has used the services of Emmaus Leadership in the successful appointment of a new headteacher and we have no hesitation in recommending them to others."
Rosemary Johnson, Chair of Governors - Lowton CE High School
"Emmaus brings a level of professionalism, seen in other industry sectors, to church schools’ recruitment."
The Rt Rev Nick Baines - Anglican Bishop of Leeds
"…we also considered other external recruiters, but Emmaus were clear favourites in terms of their recruitment expertise and in-depth knowledge and appreciation of the catholic school’s sector."
Peter Giorgio, Director of Education, Nottingham Diocese
"Having previously struggled to recruit two Headteachers - for both a Primary and a Secondary school - Emmaus came to the rescue. Their expert advice and deep understanding of recruiting Headship positions in Catholic schools is invaluable, and I have no hesitation in recommending their knowhow and their values."
Fr David Gibbons, Chair of Governors & Parish Priest, Archdiocese of Southwark
"We had been cold called by a few other companies but chose Emmaus as it specialised in Church schools. We were impressed by Liam and his team coming to the school and burrowing in to what the school wanted and needed. He asked searching questions and we were satisfied this was the way forward. I had not been a fan of head hunters before, but I have to say this process and its result was a hugely better experience than going out on our own and was totally professional throughout."
Bridget Prentice, Chair of Governors - Trinity School, Lewisham
"We are delighted with the appointment we made and I have reported to the whole community that we could not have been more thorough in the search or more rigorous in the selection process. Thank you Emmaus Leadership."
Jacqui Feely, Chair at All Hallows Catholic College, Macclesfield
"We came across Emmaus by accident after our own attempts to recruit a Headteacher failed. We would not hesitate to engage them again to find a suitable candidate for a leadership position."
Michael Tennant - Chairman of the Board, St Edward's School
"I have no hesitation in commending Emmaus to any school that is seeking to appoint a Christian Headteacher. In particular, Emmaus’ ability to promote the school, assess the ethos of the school and communicate this within the networks of those who might be considered as possible candidates was invaluable."
Clive Purser, Chair of Governors, St Andrew's CE High School for Boys, Worthing
