This is a rare and exciting opportunity to lead a successful and growing Christian independent primary school with an even brighter future.

London Christian School (LCS) is a thriving independent Christian primary school of 115 pupils of all abilities, from Early Reception to Year 6. Since opening in 2007, we have combined high academic standards with the intentional development of Godly character and a biblical worldview across the curriculum.

At LCS we welcome families of all faiths and none. While around 25% of pupils come from Christian homes, the majority represent a wide range of beliefs. Our only requirement is that parents are happy for their children to be taught from a distinctly Christian perspective.

Financially stable, with healthy reserves and a strong bursary policy, LCS is entering an exciting phase of sustainable growth. We have recently purchased and are refurbishing the neighbouring building, significantly enhancing our facilities and profile in the local community.

Our most recent ISI report (Sept 2025) confirmed that LCS meets every one of the ISI standards, with particular praise for the quality of education, safeguarding culture, and the way pupils’ wellbeing, confidence, and respect for others are nurtured daily.

As the school enters a new chapter, we are seeking a Headteacher with the vision, energy and wisdom to lead and inspire our Christ-centred school as a place of pastoral and academic excellence. You will join a warm, vibrant community with a committed staff team, supportive parents and joyful, engaged children. Our dedicated Governors are committed to bringing positivity and support to your leadership of the school.

If you are a senior school leader—whether a current Head, Deputy, or Head of Department seeking your first Headship—and come from either the Independent or State sector, and believe you bring the God-given leadership qualities to inspire excellence, we would love to hear from you.

Applicants must be committed, practising Christians.

Closing date: Monday 29 January, 5pm
Interviews: w/c 2 February (informal chats) and w/c 9 February (in situ)

We encourage you to visit LCS to experience our distinctive warmth and community first-hand.

If you are interested in applying for this role, please contact Liam Dowds, our Emmaus Leadership Advising Consultant, for an informal and confidential chat on 01737 652043 or ldowds@emmausleadership.me.

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

"I’m delighted with the way it went and the successful outcome (third SLT placement now!) helps confirm to Governors that your approach is right for these levels of appointment. It’s difficult to quantify the costs of recruiting and failing to get the right candidate ourselves - we’d only find out the true cost and also lost opportunities if we tried and failed. Altogether better to invest in getting it right first time, so thank you for all your hard work on this. The other side is the perception we leave with all candidates and I think we’ve worked together to do an excellent job (using your Assessment support). The communication, logistics and the care given I think is really important and Emmaus are a big part of that - you work as an extension of the school. I am fairly sure that all of the candidates will go away having had a great experience and that will help our reputation spread in a positive way."

Dave Cobb - School Business & Development Manager, Saint Cecilia's CE School, London

"We came across Emmaus by accident after our own attempts to recruit a Headteacher failed. We would not hesitate to engage them again to find a suitable candidate for a leadership position."

Michael Tennant - Chairman of the Board, St Edward's School

"Having previously struggled to recruit two Headteachers - for both a Primary and a Secondary school - Emmaus came to the rescue. Their expert advice and deep understanding of recruiting Headship positions in Catholic schools is invaluable, and I have no hesitation in recommending their knowhow and their values."

Fr David Gibbons, Chair of Governors & Parish Priest, Archdiocese of Southwark

"Emmaus brings a level of professionalism, seen in other industry sectors, to church schools’ recruitment."

The Rt Rev Nick Baines - Anglican Bishop of Leeds

"We had been cold called by a few other companies but chose Emmaus as it specialised in Church schools. We were impressed by Liam and his team coming to the school and burrowing in to what the school wanted and needed. He asked searching questions and we were satisfied this was the way forward. I had not been a fan of head hunters before, but I have to say this process and its result was a hugely better experience than going out on our own and was totally professional throughout."

Bridget Prentice, Chair of Governors - Trinity School, Lewisham

"I have no hesitation in commending Emmaus to any school that is seeking to appoint a Christian Headteacher. In particular, Emmaus’ ability to promote the school, assess the ethos of the school and communicate this within the networks of those who might be considered as possible candidates was invaluable."

Clive Purser, Chair of Governors, St Andrew's CE High School for Boys, Worthing

"From prospective applicant through to newly appointed CEO at Tenax Schools Trust, I cannot speak highly enough of the services provide by Emmaus.  I recommend Emmaus Leadership without reservation."

Mark Cole, Chief Executive Officer - Tenax Schools Trust

"We tried going it alone to find a CEO for our MAT but had only 2 applicants who didn't meet our requirements. We approached Emmaus and from the start their professionalism was reassuring."

Barry Leyland, Chair - Blessed Edward Bamber Catholic Multi Academy Trust

"I would thoroughly recommend Emmaus for any diocese or MAT seeking to appoint at a senior level in Catholic Education. Should we need help in the future...I would be confident in using Emmaus again."

Bishop Alan Williams sm - Diocese of Brentwood

"We are delighted with the appointment we made and I have reported to the whole community that we could not have been more thorough in the search or more rigorous in the selection process. Thank you Emmaus Leadership."

Jacqui Feely, Chair at All Hallows Catholic College, Macclesfield
